Removing paint from UPVC window frames?
Mar 25, · Tested on a couple of areas first and ended up using Mangers (it seemed to be less vicious than Nitromors). Still a relatively slow process though - apply over a four/five inch length of window frame, let the paint bubble, wipe off immediately with paper towel, wash liberally with a mild detergent solution and dry. Don't ask me why, please - it just seems to be part of a rich tapestry of past bodging. What's the best way to get this off without damaging the upvc? Tested on a couple of areas first and ended up using Mangers it seemed to be less vicious than Nitromors. Some areas needed a couple of applications but the surface doesn't appear to have been damaged in that there was no immediate softening, bubbling or discolouration of upvc. There is some surface imperfection - but this is minor and only in those areas covered with paint it was a very bad patchy paint job.
So since all the upvc was treated, then I suspect that any surface imperfection could have been the result of how to make a fathead stick paint having been applied directly onto the upvc in the past hw ago by the look of how much the paint had discoloured. I'll keep an eye on the job to see if there are any long-term effects, wondow maybe one day I'll get to try out your suggestion.

I've tried fine sandpaper, I've tried fine wire wool, I've tried one of those green plastic pan scourers, I've tried white spirit. I'm eroding it slowly. But - there must be a better way?

Cellulose thinners - the best thing ever for cleaning upvc inside and out, just try not to get it on the glass and wipe off all residue immediately It does stink tho!
Loanranger Forumite 2. Flash Magic Erasers, they worked on my plastic windows perfectly but they do crumble readily so buy enough for the job in hand. Try places like Poundland. ETA they just need water, no abrasives or chemicals. Thanks all. Will give it a go tomorrow.
